Full-Time, On-site: May 28, 2024 - August 30, 2024

START: May 28, 2024 END: August 30, 2024

COMPENSATION: $20.00-$23.00; Overtime (time and a half) after 48 hrs

Room and board, free access to performances, classes, talks, and studio access.

HOURS: May 28, 2024 - June 2, 2024: (5) Day work week averaging 40 hrs

June 3, 2024 - August 30, 2024: (6) Day work week averaging 55 hrs

REPORTS TO: Wardrobe Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Production

WORKS WITH: Full-time and Seasonal Festival Staff, Production Interns, Visiting Company Members

SUPERVISES: Production Interns, as assigned



Jacob’s Pillow seeks a WARDROBE TECHNICIAN to join the Production Department and work closely with/report directly to the Wardrobe Supervisor. The Wardrobe Technician will assist in the planning, preparing, and executing all costume and wardrobe needs of all productions in the Ted Shawn Theatre. The Wardrobe Technician will assist the TST Production Manager and Wardrobe Supervisor in advancing TST visiting companies and will assist in the set-up of the Festival’s wardrobe, costume, and backstage areas. During the festival, the Wardrobe Technician will be a member of the Ted Shawn Theatre run crew and the visiting company's primary wardrobe contact, assisting a company Wardrobe Head or, using paperwork provided by the company, assuming that role. Along with the Wardrobe Supervisor, the Wardrobe Technician will supervise, teach, and mentor production interns during their wardrobe rotation.



RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintain a safe, healthy, and accessible work environment at all times.

- Actively participate in communication with visiting companies to ensure clear communication about The Pillow’s facilities and equipment, as well as to assess any additional equipment or support that will be needed to execute the artist’s vision.

- Act as the primary wardrobe point of contact for all TST visiting companies during their time on campus.

- Facilitate the maintenance and care for visiting companies’ costumes, including washing (machine and hand), drying (machine and line), steaming, and minor repairs.

- Assist in the set up of the TST Wardrobe Room and the dressing rooms of TST, HJL, and Perles, and assist in the set-up of other areas of the theaters before the Festival.

- Ensure TST’s modular dressing rooms are set up prior to the arrival of the visiting companies based on the individual needs of each group.

- Assist in any emergency costume repairs during performances.

- Assist visiting companies with packing and load-out.

- Create and maintain all necessary or assigned paperwork.

- Remain in constant communication with the TST Production Manager to ensure proper and necessary support for visiting company.

- Maintain a clean and orderly costume shop, laundry area, and dressing rooms.

- Support and assist with constructing costumes for the season-opening Gala and School Productions as needed.

- Completion of Adult/Child CPR and First Aid Training (provided to all seasonal staff before the Festival).

- Mentor and train Production Interns in wardrobe and theater production.

- Assist other production departments as needed.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum 3 years of related theatrical costume or wardrobe experience.

- Knowledge and the ability to instruct others on theatrical costume and wardrobe equipment, systems, and procedures.

- Knowledge of and experience with laundry and fabric cleaning techniques and supplies.

- Proficiency with the Google App suite.

- Ability to work proactively, creatively, flexibly, and collaboratively.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

- Valid driver’s license.

- Experience working in an educational environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Working regularly in wooded areas with exposure to native wildlife including, but not limited to, rodents, ticks, and mosquitos.

- Working regularly outdoors in all weather conditions, including inclement weather.

- Working a 6-day work week, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.

- Moving equipment up to 50 lbs alone or with assistance.

- Moving through and between multiple locations throughout the entire campus.

- Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

- Working in show conditions with theatrical and atmospheric elements including but not limited to fog, haze, strobes, dim lights, and loud sounds.
