THE LITTLE MERMAID and BEAUTIFUL
DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID
ARIEL (18-30) – A mermaid and King Triton’s youngest daughter. She is curious about the human world, and dreams of becoming a part of life above the water. Pragmatic, trusting, kind-hearted, and passionate. Theatrical flight experience a plus. Dance required. Vocal range: Bb3-Eb5
PRINCE ERIC (18-30) – A human monarch who has little interest in taking the crown. He is adventurous and a risk taker. Once Ariel saves his life, he becomes enthralled with finding his rescuer. Dance required. Vocal range: B3-D5
KING TRITON (35-45): King of the Sea and Ariel’s father. Beneath his imposing presence and commanding nature lurks a harried single father who will do anything to protect his daughters. The death of his wife has also given him an irrational fear of humans. Vocal range: Ab2-F4
SEBASTIAN (any gender, 30-45): A crab and advisor to King Triton. A musical virtuoso who is constantly distraught from keeping after Ariel. Despite his paranoia, he can’t bring himself to stand in Ariel’s way. Puppetry experience a plus. Vocal range: Bb2-C5
SCUTTLE (any gender): Vocal range: B3-E5
FLOUNDER (any gender, young adult to play teen): A fish and smitten with Ariel, his best friend. Rambunctious but cautious, fearful of the dangers that lurk in and above the water. Puppetry experience a plus. Vocal range: A2-G4
URSULA (30-50): The manipulative sea witch who tries to overthrow King Triton. She is cunning and devious and will stop and nothing to get what she wants. Vocal range:F3-C#5
FLOTSAM (any gender, 20s-30s): An eel and one of Ursula’s lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear. Puppetry experience a plus. Vocal range: C4-C#5
JETSAM (any gender, 20s-30s): An eel and one of Ursula’s lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear. Puppetry experience a plus. Vocal range: C4-C#5
BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL
CAROLE KING (Jewish, Ages from 18-30) – She is an aspiring singer/songwriter. A unique, appealing, funny, and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. Talented, good natured, unassuming, and often the peace maker in difficult situations. A reluctant star with no pretense and a passion for music. Ability to play piano a plus. Vocal range: Eb3-Eb5
GERRY GOFFIN (Ages from 18-30) – Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner and eventual husband. Innately sympathetic, wounded and tortured. An ambitions artist always striving for more. Vocal range: B3-D5
CYNTHIA WEIL (Ages from 18-30): She is songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Barry. Carole’s best friend. She is sophisticated, smart and chic with a quick wit. Although self-confident and sarcastic, she is also extremely likable. Vocal range: G3-E5
BARRY MANN (Ages from 18-30): A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia. He is good natured, appealing and neurotic. Ambitious, but likable. Vocal range: Bb2-C5
GENIE KLEIN (female presenting, Jewish, 40-50): Carole’s mother. Once an aspiring playwright, she has been broken down by life and her husband’s infidelity. Protective of Carole and unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes. Vocal range: B3-E5
DON KIRSHNER (40-60): An influential music publisher and producer. He is a fast talking, energetic force of nature. Powerful, direct and sometimes intimidating, but he has a real affinity for his writers and artists. A hit maker. Vocal range: A2-C#4
