Hello again readers! As the semester rolls into the springtime (yay), I'm thinking about all the theatre songs that give STRONG spring vibes, in my opinion. My playlists and musical tastes definitely change when the seasons do, so I'm trying to get myself out of the dreary state of winter and into a bright springtime era. Without further ado, let's list them!

1. "It Might As Well Be Spring" from State Fair by Rodgers & Hammerstein

This one makes the list for OBVIOUS reasons but I especially like the uptempo version of it that I listen to on the "A Grand Night for Singing" album. It's a good Golden Age audition song as well for sopranos out there.

2. "The Lusty Month of May" from Camelot by Loewe and Lerner

Again, another obvious choice. When the 2023 revival of this musical came out, I feel like I could not stop seeing videos of Phillipa Soo singing this on my Instagram and Tik Tok and it's such a pretty version of such a pretty song.

3. "Edelweiss" / "The Lonely Goatherd" / "The Sound of Music," etc. from The Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein

I don't know why my taste is so classic so far! This entire soundtrack does, in fact, give spring vibes to me because when I listen to it... I can't help but picture the gorgeous scenery in the movie with so many green rolling hills and flowers in it. Those images paired with this music just defines your ideal spring.

4. "Epic III" from Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell

Another song in which the imagery of the lyrics just do it for me (Persephone... gathering flowers in the light of the sun... yada yada...). Although this music has some depressing undertones, the part of the song when the ensemble joins in so brightly is what really echoes spring to me. It's so hopeful!

5. "Morning Glow" from Pippin by Stephen Schwartz

This song screams the hopefulness and rebirth traditionally associated with spring (even if there's quite a decrease in hopefulness that occurs after this song in the context of the actual show).

6. "Younger Than Springtime" from South Pacific by Rodgers & Hammerstein

- Yet again, another song by Rodgers & Hammerstein AND it has "spring" in the title! I just watched the movie South Pacific and I couldn't get this song out of my head when it was over. Rodgers & Hammerstein, they just have a way with that springtime music.

7.  "Singin' In The Rain" from Singin' In The Rain by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown

All I have to say for this one is: April showers bring May flowers!

8. "One Short Day" from Wicked by Stephen Schwartz

"It's all grand, and it's all green!" This song is so uplifiting and it is kind of a random choice but it reminds me of how spring should feel: exciting and like a new beginning!

There are so many other songs that would also qualify under the category of springtime vibes but these are the first 8 that came to my head! Happy Spring EVERYONE! <3
