Properties Carpenter Overhire - Goodman Theatre

JOB TITLE: Properties Overhire Carpentry 

REPORTS TO: Properties Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

DATES: Immediate- June 21 

COMPENSATION RATE: $25.00/hour 

LOCATION: 170. N Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60601 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Goodman Theatre is searching for Experienced Props Carpentry Overhire to work collaboratively with the Properties Supervisor and other prop department members on its production of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• -Work under the supervision of the Properties Supervisor to construct various large props for Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil 
• -Assist the properties crew in construction of various hand props and dressing props for Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil 
• -Work with properties crew in gathering and transporting rehearsal and show props 
• -Work with properties crew to maintain safe and sanitary scene shop, prop shop and all prop storage areas 
• -Collaborate with Properties Supervisor and Prop Department with creative problem solving, construction methods, and implementation 
• -Be available for overtime and weekend hours on an as needed basis 
• -Work on specific projects as assigned 
• -Be punctual, respectful, work collaboratively as a team member, and maintain a positive attitude. 
• -Uphold Goodman Theatre quality and construction standards 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• -2 years professional experience in Theatrical Props Carpentry 
• -Advanced skill in woodworking and finished carpentry 
• -Overall experience in props construction 
• -Ability to repeatedly lift, push or maneuver 50-70lbs, either alone or with assistance from others 
• -Model behavior and values consistent with Goodman’s Community Agreements and furthering Goodman’s IDEAA (inclusion, diversity, equity, anti-racism and access) goals.
