BREAKDOWN

OKLAHOMA CITY REPERTORY THEATRE 2024-2025 SEASON

NOTE: We want all actors who feel they can perform these roles to feel welcome to submit.

THE THANKSGIVING PLAY

by Larissa FastHorse
directed by Alice Reagan

Synopsis: Good intentions collide with absurd assumptions in this wickedly funny satire, as a troupe of terminally woke teaching artists scramble to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month. This hit play was written by Larissa FastHorse, making her the first Native American woman playwright produced on Broadway.

FOR ALL ROLES in THE THANKSGIVING PLAY: Actors of color, actors who are differently-abled, actors who are neuro-diverse, and actors who identify as LGBTQIA+ encouraged to submit. While the characters are white people, we very much encourage all actors who believe they can convincingly play the characters below to audition, regardless of whether their own racial identity is the same as the characters.

SEEKING:

LOGAN - Female, Caucasian looking, the high school drama teacher that’s always pushing the envelope in potentially inappropriate ways. Earnest about theatre and proving herself. “Woke,” vegan, nauseated at the mere mention of turkey. Any age.

JAXTON - Male, Caucasion looking, yoga practitioner/actor. Politically correct to a fault, a big one. He’s that confident guy everyone loves, but his logical PC thinking takes weird turns. Self-described “vegan ally.” Any age.

ALICIA - Female, brunette, Caucasian looking but has looks that would have been cast as ethnic in 1950s movies. Without guile. Sexy and hot, but not bright. All ages open. Actor must have strong comedic skills & an adventurous sense of play.

CADEN - Male, Caucasian looking, the academic. Awkward elementary school history teacher with dramatic aspirations but no experience. His dream is to have his plays performed by semi-professional actors. Any age.

WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME

by Heidi Schreck
directed by Jessica Holt

Synopsis: In this hilarious, hopeful, and achingly human show, Heidi resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that changed their lives.

SEEKING:

HEIDI – CAST (Female-presenting, 40 – casting 30s-50s) A former debate champion who traveled the country in her teens giving speeches about the Constitution at American legion halls for prize money. Alternates between adulthood and her 15-year-old self throughout the play. Engaging, dynamic, smart, passionate, and witty. Based on playwright Heidi Schreck.

LEGIONAIRRE/MIKE - he/him. Any Ethnicity. 30s-50s. Heidi’s friend. First appears as an assertive American Legionnaire monitor, a stickler for the rules. Later turns into Heidi’s ally and assistant, reflective and genuine

STUDENT– CAST (Female-presenting / Non-binary, casting 13-18) Shows up in the show's second half to debate the Constitution with Heidi.
