BREAKDOWN

MRS. STERN WANDERS THE PRUSSIAN STATE LIBRARY:

SYNOPSIS:

Johanna Cohn Stern will go on to become one of the greatest thinkers of the twentieth century, and perhaps the most influential. But at the moment, no one has heard of her, or even of the name she writes under: Hannah Arendt. Karl Frick is a young officer, recently promoted from the criminal division to the political police force, a new division in 1933 Berlin, soon to become known as the Gestapo. His first interrogation in this job promises to be a most challenging one. Is Mrs. Stern an innocent who pressed a button on a mimeograph machine at the wrong moment? Or is she an enemy of the state? A fantastical drama about one of our deepest thinkers, inspired by real events.

SEEKING:

HANNAH ARENDT, 26, a scholar—German-born. Jewish — A brilliant young graduate student possessing legendary charm, sharp wit, and untold depths. She has finished a philosophy dissertation and is working on her second book. Under suspicion of doing illegal research, she is arrested by Gestapo and may be charged with treason.

ERICH LANDAU, 45-65 years old, an attorney—German-born, Jewish. An eminent lawyer and decorated World War I veteran, he is sent to represent the scholar Hannah Arendt while she is being detained by the political police in 1933

Berlin.

KARL FRICK, CAST 25, a police officer—German. A young officer in 1933 Berlin, recently promoted to the political division. Thoughtful, educated, determined to do the right thing. Responsible for detaining (and potentially charging) young political philosopher Hannah Arendt for crimes against the state.
