BREAKDOWN

MCNEAL

SEEKING:

JACOB MCNEAL – CAST 60s. Caucasian. A renowned author and winner of a Nobel Prize, he’s a magnetic conflagration of misanthropy, ego and charm. Contrarian and seductive, he’s self-absorbed and self-confident when his work is well received, but when his work takes a critical hit, his depression and drinking problems rage. Has burned many a bridge, professional and personal.

SAHRA GREWAL – CAST 40s. Any ethnicity. McNeal's physician. Confident and unintimidated by McNeal, she is concerned about his health and well-being.

STEPHIE BANIC – Mid-50s- 60s. Any ethnicity. McNeal's lifelong literary agent. Her work and her clients are all consuming. She knows McNeal as well as anyone does, and, despite her tough and sometimes ferocious exterior, treats him with compassion and love.

DIPTI – CAST Early-Mid 20s. South Asian American. Assistant to Stephie Banic, probably recently out of school, she’s sincere and earnest, open.

HARLAN MCNEAL –Early 30s. Caucasian. McNeal's estranged son. Sensitive and furious. He has suffered a lifetime of emotional damage caused, in his estimation, by his father’s unrelenting egoism, manipulation, and abuse of others.

NATASHA BRATHWAITE –Black. L20s. A New York Times reporter on the culture beat, who’s writing a feature on McNeal. She’s smart, ambitious, and observant, with a curious and probing mind.

FRANCINE BLAKE – Caucasian. 50s. A retired New York Times editor. Whip smart, she’s equally capable of withering sarcasm and deep vulnerability. She can wound with words. Poised and beautiful.
