Somewhere in La Mancha a man’s brain dries up from reading one too many books of wandering knights. With his stalwart steed Rocinante and Sancho, his stout and steadfast squire, Don Quixote sets out to bring back the Code of Chivalry to save a world that didn’t know it needed saving. Our would-be knight’s quest is idealistic, bombastic, and filled full with folly and madness. Inspired by Cervantes’ inspiring novel, Circus Quixote defies gravity. And reason.
CERVANTES/SANCHO PANZA - Cervantes is the author of the novel, and Sancho Panza is Don Quixote’s dim-witted but loyal squire. Circus skills include physical comedy, dance, guitar a plus but not necessary
DULCINEA (and others) - the woman Don Quixote has named his lady as required by the code of Chivalry. He has never met her. Able to sing. Circus skills include physical comedy, acro, dance, movement
SISTER SOFIA (and others) - a pious nun who wants to find love. Circus skills include straps, acro, physical comedy, aerial windmill apparatus
MASTER NICOLS (and others) - a nearsighted barber who doesn’t know what he’s missing. Circus skills include straps, acro, physical comedy
SAMSON CARRASCO (and others) - a dashing bachelor who aspires to be an intellectual. Circus skills include pole, acro, physical comedy, aerial windmill apparatus
ANTONIA (and others) - The niece of Don Quixote. A practical young woman who just wants the attention of her uncle. Circus skills include contortion, acro, physical comedy, ariel net

Iraq, But Funny is a dark, satirical, multi-media, semi-autobiographical play. It portrays five generations of Assyrian/Iraqi families, with a focus on the women, from Ottoman Empire to modern day U.S.A.. While we explore the personal/familial generational cycles and cycle breaking, we are also taken through the world and region’s historical timeline via a British narrator, called The English Gentleman (aka TEG). Actors will portray multiple characters throughout the generations.
Looking for SWANA actors with comedic ability, who can play wide age ranges, sing, learn lines in Assyrian (with some Arabic,) and improvise.
