CONTRACT

Production (League)

The minimum base weekly salary for the positions being auditioned for is established by a collective bargaining agreement between The Broadway League Inc., on behalf of the above-named producer, and Actors' Equity Association. For Broadway, it is anticipated that the base weekly salary for each of the below-listed roles will range between a minimum of $2,537 per week (which equals an annualized base salary of $131,924) and a maximum of $3,000 per week (which equals an annualized base salary of $156,000).

As part of a pilot program created in the new agreement for Production: Broadway and Sit Downs, the employer will accept 126 video submissions from Equity members. Members will sign up online for one of the 126 slots. Only members who get one of the 126 slots will receive a confirmation e-mail with the preparation and submission information. After members' submissions have been viewed, the employer will notify each member who viewed their audition.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

BREAKDOWN

HILLS OF CALIFORNIA (Broadway)

All Roles to be read in Northern British Working-Class Accent Unless Otherwise Noted. Have a facility with comedy. All women should be able to carry a tune and hold a harmony.

Already Cast:

CAST TBA - VERONICA/JOAN (Female, white, 40s) VERONICA, working class British, is the hardworking owner of the failing Sea View. She will do anything for her daughters to succeed as a musical act. JOAN is the one daughter who gets away to America to find a career. She has been fully Americanized, including her accent, and is hesitant to return to her mother and her sisters. Able to sing and light piano skills a plus.

CAST TBA - GLORIA (Female, white, 40s) The embittered oldest of the daughters. GLORIA was hurt by her mother in her early teens and has never recovered, often taking out her hurt and anger on those around her.

CAST TBA – RUBY (Female, white, 40s) RUBY is the most practical of the sisters. She knows who she is, what she has, and what her lot in life is. She can’t bring herself to go into her dying mother’s room.

CAST TBA – JILL (Female, white, 40s) JILL is the most sensitive and hopeful of the sisters. She has taken on the burden of the youngest female child -- stayed home, took care of mom, didn’t marry, watched the town around her die.

CAST TBA - YOUNG JOAN (Female, white, 17+ to play 14) The younger version of the above. Her personality traits are firmly in place.

CAST TBA - YOUNG GLORIA (Female, white, 17+ to play 14) The younger version of the above. Her personality traits are firmly in place.

CAST TBA - YOUNG RUBY (Female, white, 17+ to play 14) The younger version of the above. Her personality traits are firmly in place.

CAST TBA - YOUNG JILL (Female, white, 17+ to play 14) The younger version of the above. Her personality traits are firmly in place.

CAST TBA - MR. POTTS/JOE FOGG (Male, 40s) MR. POTTS is a piano tuner who has been around for a while. JOE FOGG is the alcoholic piano player who can’t seem to catch a break.

CAST TBA - DENNIS/JACK LARKIN (Male, 40s – early 50s) Working class, northern England family man: DENNIS is the husband of Ruby, rumpled, sun-burnt, indescribably dull, prone to argue when drunk. JACK fancies himself a performer and comedian and is well-loved by guests and residents of the Sea View, he is always short on money and three months behind on rent.

BILL/MR. HALLIWELL (Male, 40s – early 50s): Working class, northern England family man: BILL is the down-trodden husband of Gloria and father of Tony and Patty. MR. HALLIWELL is a boarder at the Sea View who likes shortcuts.

LUTHER ST. JOHN (Male, 40s): American. Talent manager, scout, and producer who claims to have his finger on the pulse of popular music and a roster of famous names. He takes advantage of his position when the opportunity arises.

PENNY/BIDDY (Female, black, 40-55) West Indian. PENNY is a nurse, caring but practical, of Caribbean heritage. BIDDY is a maid, North British accent.

MR. SMITH (Male, 40s): Guest at the Sea View, not their real names – a tryst. Covers: MR. POTTS JOE FOGG/BILL-MR. HALLIWELL/DR. ROSE. A highly skilled pianist able to play live on-stage (jazz/boogie-woogie style).

MRS. SMITH (Female, white, 40s): Guest at the Sea View, not their real names – a tryst. Covers: JILL. Able to sing and light piano skills a plus.

TONY (Male, 17+ to play 14): teenaged son of Gloria and Bill, in the midst of everything that teenage means – don’t call him Anthony.

PATTY (Male, 17+ to play 13): teenaged daughter of Gloria and Bill, she lives to torment her brother, restless, excited. Covers: YOUNG RUBY/YOUNG JILL

DR. ROSE (Male, 40s – 50s): A kindly medicine man who recognizes end of life symptoms and will do what’s necessary to bring on a peaceful end for patients. Covers: DENNIS-JACK LARKIN/LUTHER ST. JOHN/MR. SMITH
